Centre for Policy Studies in Education

CPSE is a University of Leeds Centre dedicated to the study of education policy and practice. CPSE engages with education policy at all levels - from the early years to higher education - and in various contexts - UK, European and international.

CPSE aims to:

  • Advance the study of education policy
  • Explore the relationship between policy, research and practice
  • Contribute to knowledge and understanding about policy and policy making
  • Link education policy research with a wide range of research users

CPSE is committed to making policy research and study accessible and inclusive. It brings together researchers in education, social scientists, policymakers and practitioners engaged in interpreting, evaluating and influencing the development of education policies.

Membership and support is drawn from the School of Education, other departments at Leeds University, and externally from other universities, colleges, schools and educational bodies.

Participants include vice-chancellors and principals, chief education officers, head teachers, inspectors, teachers, tutors, lecturers and research students.

Activities

CPSE regularly hosts guest lectures and seminars with invited speakers from all areas of education, including professors from other universities and representatives from research councils, charities and governmental agencies in the UK and overseas.

Its activities are designed to stimulate world-class policy research, extend the connections between research and research users and address the changing concerns of the UK and international policy community.

Our seminars are based on firm multi-disciplinary research foundations and aim to help disseminate policy-related research in education. Previous high-profile speakers include the former HM Chief Inspector of Schools, Sir Mike Tomlinson (CBE FRSA) and Bill Rammell MP, Minister of State for Lifelong Learning, Further and Higher Education.
