The government's reform of higher education - the gap between rhetoric and reality

16 October 2012 - 16 October 2012
School of Music Conference Room

The Centre for Policy Studies Education (CPSE) at the University of Leeds  would like to invite you to a CPSE seminar, led by Bahram Bekhradnia, Director of the Higher Education Policy Institute (HEPI), to discuss:

The government's reform of higher education - the gap between rhetoric and reality

 Abstract:

The government has introduced far-reaching and radical reforms of the funding and governance of higher education in England, in the name of creating a sustainable higher education system based on 'students at the heart of the system', less government intervention and a greater reliance on market mechanisms. In this talk Bahram Bekhradnia will show how far removed the reality is from the government's stated aspirations and ideology.

 About Bahram Bekhradnia:

He became the first director of the Higher Education Policy Institute on its creation on 1 November 2002. Before that he had been Director of Policy for the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) since its formation in 1992, having briefly worked for the Universities Funding Council (UFC). While at HEFCE he was at the heart of many of the key developments affecting higher education during the decade, serving on a number of national committees, of which he chaired some. Before joining the UFC he had spent his career in the Department of Education and Science (as it then was), where he was latterly Head of the Teacher Supply Division.
