From scientist to film maker and beyond: how a Biochemistry degree prepares you for an Arts career and an Entrepreneurial vision

Nick Owen MBE, Director, Aspire Trust

Nick Owen is Director of the Aspire Trust and was awarded an MBE for services to arts based businesses in the 2012 New Year Honours list. He is a creative producer and educator who has worked in all learning contexts from Early Years, through Primary, Secondary, Vocational, Higher Education and Life Long Learning either as teacher, tutor and curriculum developer or senior manager.

He was awarded a unique PhD scholarship in Creativity and Learning by Creative Partnerships at the University of Hull in 2005 and was later awarded Honorary Fellowships in Education at both the University of Hull and University of Tasmania (UTAS) in 2012.

Founded in 2002 the Aspire Trust is an arts organisation dedicated to touching peoples’ lives through creativity. Based in Wallasey, Merseyside but operating nationally and internationally, it offers a range of innovative and challenging programmes which help people tell new stories, create new opportunities and learn new skills and knowledge.
