Language Education Seminar: ‘Narrative & Metaphor’

27 November 2013 - 27 November 2013
Hillary Place G.18

The Language Education Research Group in the School of Education is pleased to invite you to attend this research seminar which is part of our 2013-14 seminar series.

This seminar will be delivered by Professor Mike Baynham and Professor Alice Deignan on ‘Narrative & Metaphor’

While much has been written about metaphor and narrative in a range of disciplines, it has been rare that metaphor and narrative have been brought together and yet we think there are compelling reasons why the juxtaposition of metaphor and narrative might be interesting to students of discourse.

There is a well developed literature on narrative in linguistics, which is where Baynham is coming from and on metaphor (Deignan's perspective).

In these two presentations we explore metaphor from a narrative perspective and narrative from a metaphor perspective.

There is no booking required, however, due to the size of the room, seating will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The School apologises in advance if this causes any inconvenience.
