Researching language learning motivation: from practice to theory
This talk will report on a doctoral study which investigated the motivation of a group of L1-English adults on an Italian beginner course. The focus will be firstly on the qualitative, longitudinal approach adopted by the study, and secondly on the findings and subsequent theory generation which has led to a new conceptual metaphor called 'Fiume' (River) model of language learning motivation. The session is aimed at both PG students and staff interested in L2 and foreign language education research.
