Up and up and up towards
Dr Lou Harvey and theatre company Cap-a-Pie have been awarded funding from the University’s Public Engagement team to present a short piece of performance art, Up and up and up towards, at Leeds Light Night 2016. The performance is based on Lou’s research into the intercultural experiences of international students, and explores themes of language, ambition, (mis)understanding, and the public discourse around expectations placed on migrants to integrate and learn English. The performance aims to make audiences think about our shared responsibility for successful intercultural communication.
Cap-a-Pie are a Newcastle-based theatre company who specialise in working alongside academics and communities to create professional theatre, community projects and research. Cap-a-Pie and Lou co-created Up and up and up towards as part of the DARE edition of Leeds Creative Labs in 2015, and they are currently seeking funding from Arts Council England to produce a full-length piece of theatre together based on this work.
