Workshops

Open Training Workshop

Date: 19-20 September 2006

Location: The Open University, Milton Keynes

This workshop is now full, and we cannot accept any more bookings.

Course Description

The workshop is aimed at social science researchers unfamiliar with current views of metaphor but interested in how analysing metaphors in discourse data can reveal research participants' understandings, attitudes and emotions. After a brief review of theories of metaphor, techniques of metaphor analysis will be demonstrated on spoken and written discourse data. Workshop participants will be able to try out aspects of metaphor analysis on data provided and on their own data, assisted by experienced metaphor. The potential and its limitations of metaphor analysis for social science research will be discussed.
