Staff raise money for solar power in Eritrean school

22 March 2007 |

Children in EritreaStaff from the School of Education have helped raise enough money to install solar power in a school in rural Eritrea.

For the past six years staff have been working with a number of schools in rural Eritrea as part of a Higher Education Link Programme between the School of Education and the Asmara Teacher Education Institute.

As a way of saying thank you for the welcome and hospitality received in our visits over the years, School of Education staff helped to raise money to install solar power in Bogu Elementary and Junior School, situated in a remote area of north-western Eritrea.

The school now has lighting for four classrooms, TV and video, and has also secured a computer as a donation from the British Council. To mark the occasion the community painted the whole school and held festivities to mark the new stage in the life of the School.
