TC21 wins Equality and Diversity award
The Teachers for the 21st Century Project (TC21) has won the Regional Equality and Champions award for 2007.
The project, a consortium of 11 Higher Education Institutions in the Yorkshire and Humber region, aims to encourage Black and Minority Ethnic people to enter the teaching profession. Students wishing to train in one of the partner institutions are offered pre-entry practical guidance and application support by the project, based in the School of Education at the University of Leeds.
The award was presented by the East Coast Centre for Diversity (representing The Grimsby Institute of Further & Higher Education) who works with the Learning & Skills Council to recognise ongoing excellence. They selected TC21, led by Sudha Raghavan, as a champion for its work in increasing the number of Black and Minority Ethnic teacher trainees across the region since the project began.
There will be a formal award ceremony in September.
