Action for a Just Society

Cooperation between CCHRE and CELS, Simon Fraser University, Vancouver

The Centre for Citizenship and Human Rights Education is planning a research project on students and teachers' understandings of human rights with the Centre for Education Law and Society (CELS) Faculty of Education, Simon Fraser University, British Columbia, Canada.

On 5 November 2008, CELS will launch part of this programme of work with a conference targeted at various stakeholders, entitled Action for a Just Society. It will provide a forum teachers, academics, educational stakeholders and students designed to address concepts such as the rule of law and what it means to live in and work towards a just society. The key themes will address citizenship and civic identity in the school; identities and struggles for justice; human rights and (in)justice; and sustainability.

Professor Audrey Osler, Director of CCHRE will be a keynote speaker at the event. Her title is: Education for Human Rights and Cosmopolitan Citizenship: responding to the challenges of our global age.
