Institute of Physics ‘hat-trick’ for Professor Phil Scott
Professor Phil Scott completed a sequence of three key-note presentations at Institute of Physics meetings during June and July 2010.
The first was at the 22nd Annual Meeting for Teachers of Physics in Schools and Colleges, held at Rugby School, on June 10th, where Phil spoke to the title: ‘Teaching and learning physics concepts: A neglected art?’. On Friday July 18th, Phil managed to miss the England versus Algeria World Cup game by making a pre-dinner presentation at the Stimulating Physics Network National CPD Conference, staged at the IoP Headquarters in London. Most agreed afterwards that Phil had been lucky (to miss the game). Finally, on Saturday July 10th, Phil spoke at the IoP Summer Update Physics Meeting at the University of Sheffield. All three presentations addressed the theme of not underestimating the value and importance of teaching and learning physics concepts and in total about 250 people attended.
