Dr Jean Conteh's new book shortlisted for UKLA award
The United Kingdom Literacy Association (UKLA) have just announced their shortlist for the 2013 Author Award, awarded biennially for the academic text that best inspires the teaching of literacy, based on sound research and which makes a distinctive contribution to literacy education. The list includes Dr. Jean Conteh's latest book, 'Teaching bilingual and EAL learners in primary classrooms', published by Sage in 2012.
The news is particularly pleasing as it is the first time that a book related to the needs of pupils learning English as an additional language has been included on the list, and it comes just as the School of Education is about to launch a new Master's course in EAL and Education, which is currently recruiting for September 2013. Jean will hear if her book has won the award at the UKLA International Conference at Liverpool Hope University in July.
Dr Becky Parry is also nominated and short-listed for the UKLA student research award.
