30 September 2015 | Sarah Redhead

Second year BA English, Language and Education student Laura Trace co-presented with lecturer Dr Martin Lamb at a Workshop at the University of Oxford on 18th September. The Workshop was sponsored by the British Association of Applied Linguistics (BAAL) and Routledge Publishers, and was on the theme of ‘Language Learning beyond the Classroom’. Laura and Martin’s talk was titled ‘Investigating the motivational dynamics of Indonesian teenagers learning English’.

Laura, who is a Laidlaw Scholar on the University Research and Leadership Scheme, has just returned from 2 months teaching English and researching at a school in Jambi, Sumatra, Indonesia. During the year she will be keeping in contact with a number of Indonesian teenagers, from contrasting socioeconomic backgrounds, in order to understand how they learn English outside the classroom. She will return to the school in the summer of 2016 to complete the project.
