Maths Qualifications
The Mathematics Education Team and the Assessment and Evaluation Unit won one of two contracts with QCA in December 2004 to research and put forward recommendations for pathways in mathematics for the 14-19 age group. The contract followed directly from the recommendations of the Smith Report, Making Mathematics Count (DfES 2004) and has had to take into account the Tomlinson Report, (DfES 2004) and the government’s response to this report.
Now, building upon this work, the same team, working with AQA in the lead, have secured a contract to take their ideas forward into phase 2 of the work on pathways ways in mathematics. They will be developing the curriculum and assessment instruments for national assessment in mathematics across the pathways in mathematics 14-19 that they have recommended. If the materials developed through trialling and piloting are successful, the team will have had a major influence on the future mathematical education of students aged 14-19 for many years to come.
