Interests

I have researched areas relating to children and young people, inclusion, the arts and therapy for a number of years, and have published widely on childhood and related subjects. My books have been translated and published in Chinese, Korean and Greek. My  sole authored books include 'Rethinking Childhood' (Continuum), 'The Arts Therapies' (Routledge), 'Drama As Therapy' (Routledge) and the forthcoming 'How Do We See Children Now?' (Policy Press). Edited books include 'Childhood: Services and Provision for Children' (with Moss, Tomlinson and Welch: Pearson) and 'Children's Rights in Practice' (with Walker: Sage). I have delivered key notes on areas such as children and HIV and on the arts, therapy and play at De Witts University, Johannesburg and New York University.

 Current professional activities

I am series editor of Continuum's 'New Childhoods' : a research driven initiative looking at different aspects of children's lives. I currently contribute to the Open University as external advisor on their work in early years, childhood and youth and am visiting professor at Concordia University, Montreal.

Research interests

My research concerns a variety of issues concerning childhood, inclusion and empowerment. I am especially interested in the emergence of children's rights and on the relationship between the arts, communication and well being in children's lives.
