Interests
I am the ITT Partnership Manager for the School of Education and as such have a strong interest in the teacher education and the development of teaching capability. I have recently been involved in several research projects in this area including ITT for the 21st Century; NQTs' perceptions of the value of ITT in relation to Equal Opportunities, particularly gender, and Pastoral Care and ITT, amongst others. I supervise Masters' and EdD students, currently in the fields of schools' transition from single sex to co-ed, gender dimensions in assessment for learning, and raising attainment. I am an executive member of the International Gender and Education Assocation and am also a reviewer for and member of the editorial board for the journal Gender and Education. Over the last three years I, and a group of colleagues, have developed a strong link with the University of Paraiba in Brazil, working together on the development of materials and training for teachers on Gender Issues in Education. I continue to teach about Equality and Inclusion Issues on the secondary PGCE course, drawing on my twenty years experience as a secondary teacher of design and technology and my research work in this feild both at home and abroad. I am also a member of the University of Leeds Centre for Interdisciplinary Gender Studies Executive Committee and ran their MA Gender Studies programme from its inception in 1999 to 2002. Recently I have been appointed as one of the two ESSL faculty diversity officers.
