I’m a Lecturer in Primary Science Education at the School of Education, I started in September 2011. I’m originally from Leeds and taught in a local school for 10 years, I’ve been working in York for the last 10 years.
I did my MA with Leeds and was keen to pursue my research further with an EdD.
My experience in the School of Education
I’m studying what makes young children motivated to learn science, which is a fascinating subject. I get to spend lots of time in class observing children engaging in science activities.
I’ve completed two Research Methods modules this year and found them both very interesting. The different lecturers offer different perspectives as well as examples from current research experience. I’m now looking forward to starting my own study next year.
I’d highly recommend anyone to do both Research Methods modules before embarking on their own research. The information and understanding I’ve gained has been invaluable.
The facilities here at the University of Leeds are excellent, especially the libraries.
My next step is to complete my research study and to publish.
Outside of study
When I'm not studying, I’m a keen mountain biker and climber. I’m currently training to do the Welsh 3000s. I joined the Edge (Sports Centre) on campus to use the climbing wall.
I love Leeds. I like the bars, cafes and shopping, plus it’s got 3 climbing walls!
