Emma's Story

Life at Leeds

If you are thinking about coming to Leeds I would definitely recommend it,
the people are great,
the course is brilliant and Leeds is a top Northern city

Emma is from the UK and is currently in her second year of the BA (Hons) Childhood Studies course.

“I firstly chose Leeds because it is my local University. In addition, it also has a fantastic reputation and is well known to be a university which produces great results. The subject matter covered on the course is very broad. You learn about so many different aspects of childhood, education and culture that there is something to suit everyone's tastes. The modules are all designed to relate to each other, so that overall you get a sound knowledge of the subject as a whole. The subject itself is quite unique - there are plenty of Childhood Studies courses at other universities but none quite like this one. The teaching staff are fantastic and it is evident that they all have a love of the subject they teach and an enthusiasm when teaching it. One of the highlights so far has been how rewarding it was to see all my hard work pay off when I received my essay and exam results. The University facilities are great, particularly the libraries.

I was made to feel very welcome when I arrived at Leeds and found it easy to make friends. During freshers’ week there were a number of social activities specifically organised for people on my course which again helped us all to get to know each other better. One piece of advice I would give to new students is don't be daunted by all the new faces, try to remember everyone is in the same situation. It's funny when you talk to people a few months later and realise that everyone was as nervous as you were.

Once I complete the course, my ambitions for the future include completing a PGCE and then pursuing a career in primary teaching. If you are thinking about coming to Leeds I would definitely recommend it, the people are great, the course is brilliant and Leeds is a top Northern city.”
