The programme begins with the exploration of two essential elements in language teaching - the study of language itself, and the processes of learning and teaching language, including the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing.

It then moves on to the practical aspects of managing the classroom in language teaching and provides an opportunity to specialise in an area of TESOL such as language testing, materials design or teaching young learners.

On completion of the programme you will be familiar with theoretical frameworks, materials and procedures for the study and evaluation of TESOL and you will have gained skills for the critical analysis of classroom practice.

Who is the course for?

The course is offered specifically to cater for the growing number of candidates wishing to follow an MA programme without having the normally required number of years of teaching experience.

You may be a recent graduate from a BA Degree in English language or linguistics or education, or you may have gained some informal or part-time teaching experience with individuals or small groups of language learners.

The programme provides an excellent first step towards a career in TESOL.

Take a look at the CLER for more information about our research centre in the field of language education.
