Our comprehensive training will provide you with the skills and experience you need to teach modern languages to 11-18 year olds.

The programme will enable you to develop teaching strategies and the knowledge, skills and practical experience you need to succeed in the classroom, including how to design and construct teaching materials, organise pupil interaction and make the most of ICT.

The First Method Course offers you the opportunity to study French, German or Spanish. You will also be required to combine these with a second subject in one of the following ways:

  • French + German or Spanish or Primary Modern Foreign Languages (PMFL);
  • German + French or PMFL;
  • Spanish + French

In order to study the second language, you must normally have a good 'A' level pass in the subject and some residence in the country concerned. Applicants who pass French and German Extension Programmes and other similar programmes are also eligible.

Your studies will be supported by a series of lecture-seminars covering larger issues such as Modern Languages in the National Curriculum, the development of language skills and new trends in public examinations.
