Master of Philosophy in Education (MPhil)
The Programme
The MPhil in Education is a combined programme of taught modules and research, which allows students to gain valuable knowledge in education while investigating their own interests.
During the early part of the MPhil programme, students attend various research methods modules to support their research activities. An initial priority is refining the research plan and establishing a feasible timescale for the project.
The degree of Master of Philosophy is awarded on the basis of a thesis in which the student presents the rationale, methods and findings from their original study.
The School of Education offers research supervision in the following areas:
- Human rights and citizenship
- ICT in education
- Inclusive education
- Language education
- Lifelong learning (including post-14 education and higher education)
- Mathematics education
- Science education
Who is the course for?
The MPhil is designed for professionals in education and related disciplines who wish to develop their knowledge of a specialist area, as well as gaining high-quality research training.
It is available on a full- or part-time basis (to be completed within approximately two to three years respectively).
