Mathematics Education Research in CSSME

The Mathematics Education team between them enjoy research, supervising research students and teaching. They also work closely with the Assessment and Evaluation Unit.

Research in maths education at CSSME falls into four main themes:

Technology

Tool use in general and the use of computers and calculators in teaching and learning.

Learning, teaching, curriculum and assessment

These four pillars of mathematics education are but parts of a whole. Our interests range from primary school to undergraduate education. Our major current focus is with 14-19 education.

The application of mathematics

How does mathematics, the ultimate cerebral discipline, have such wide application in the world? How can students make use of the what they learn in mathematics classrooms?

The use of ICT in KS2 and KS3 mathematics

To investigate teachers’ use of ICT (spreadsheets) to enhance pupils’ mathematics subject knowledge in KS2 and KS3.

This project has come to an end but we hope to resurrect it in a slightly different format in the near future. For now we offer you two files:
