Eighteen members of the Iraqi Ministry of Education English Language Teaching Development Team spent a month in Leeds working on plans for the reintroduction of English teaching to Iraqi primary and secondary schools in the post-Saddam era.
The programme aimed to consider what new language teaching/learning materials would be appropriate to meet the hoped-for curriculum outcomes in the post-Saddam era, and to discuss what sorts of teacher support mechanisms would be contextually appropriate to assist the implementation of curriculum change in Iraqi school English classrooms.
