TESOL Short Specialist Courses
Researching Language Teaching
The Course
This course examines the theory and practice of doing research into language teaching. It takes participants through the process of planning and conducting a research project and examines the different methods which can be used in collecting and analysing both qualitative and quantitative data about language teaching.
The following key components in research design will be discussed and opportunities provided for participants to explore these in relation to their own research interests: scientific and interpretive approaches to educational research, devising effective research questions, writing a literature review, ethics, sampling, collecting and analysing quantitative and qualitative data, enhancing the quality of educational research, and strategies for effectively disseminating research findings.
