Building Capacity in Visual Methods

An Introduction to Visual Methods - Course

There will be three two-day workshops taking place every year for three years.  They will take place in different parts of the country.

The third of these workshops will take place at the University of Manchester on 18 and 19 June, 2008.

Aims

The aim of this workshop is to provide participants with a step-change career enhancing skills in visual methods; and to provide an ongoing and integrated visual methods resource for researchers with experience in visual methods at intermediate level that is stimulating, challenging and grounded in 'best practice'.

Who is the course for?

The workshop is for PhD students, research methodology trainers, research supervisors, contract researchers, postdoctoral researchers, research fellows, established mid-career qualitative researchers and research managers who are new to visual methods and are seeking to add a visual dimension to their work.

In addition participants will be from non-academic and applied research communities and social science researchers working in the voluntary and private sectors. Researchers working outside mainstream academia will be especially welcome.

This is an introductory course and the programme will be broad and intensive. There are no prerequisites, although some familiarity with the basics of qualitative research methodology would be helpful.

Some preparatory work is required in advance of the workshop and preparatory materials will be provided.
