Dr. Amanda Howard
Teaching Fellow (TESOL)
I have been active in the field of English language education for over 25 years, having worked as a teacher, teacher trainer, course developer, lecturer and postgraduate module leader in the Middle East (Qatar, the UAE, Oman and Egypt) and the UK. I have subsequently gained extensive experience working on education programmes for international students at several UK-based universities, teaching TESOL-related courses, research skills and supervising dissertations.
I previously worked at Leeds in 1996 as a part-time lecturer on postgraduate courses, and again between 2002 and 2008 as a teaching fellow on the Oman BA TESOL project.
My research interests focus on teacher evaluation, including observation and feedback, and the way that this links with professional development. Additional interests include teaching young language learners and ELT recruitment and retention.
I have taught on the postgraduate MA TESOL Studies module Analysing Language Learning, as well as Second Language Acquisition and Learning for the BA ELE.
In Semester 2 I am Module Leader for the postgraduate modules Materials Development for TESOL, Tasks and Materials for TESOL and Grammar Learning and Teaching. I also supervise dissertations and undergraduate projects.
